Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Whether you are looking to overcome a past trauma, work through a phobia, or explore and heal other distressing life events, feelings or situations, we at CLM are here to support you through this journey with EMDR.

What is EMDR?

EMDR therapy is a heavily researched, structured therapy that helps the brain and body heal from distressing events. It uses Bi-lateral Stimulation (eye movements, sounds or tapping) to assist in the processing of traumatic or distressing events and struggles that individuals face.

“EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or
completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process.”

At CLM, we use EMDR to address:

  • Violence, assault and abuse
  • Feeling stuck

Sessions

EMDR therapy is a structured therapy that typically requires progression through phases. Each phase must be completed prior to engagement with the next and each individual’s time spent in each phase can vary depending on the issue. Mariah will take time to sit with you and guide you through the process, goals, which protocol best suits these needs and what to expect. EMDR sessions are typically 1.5 hours. Depending on the target being addressed, Mariah can offer part day intensive sessions which are 3 hours. At this time, Mariah is not offering full day intensives. Sessions are billed at the hourly rate of $165.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA)

EMDR therapy is one which requires specific training and practice by the practitioner. EMDRIA is the EMDR International Association which provides information for individuals and professionals in the field. It provides strict guidelines for EMDR practices and is a place for the public to look up and connect with trained therapists in their area.
